Indians talk frequently about the economy of ancient India along with many other topics and always mention China. Chinese barely if ever talk about India in the same terms and do not look to us as peers as much as we like to pursue that belief. A proud civilization stands on its own, not under the shadow of others.

Western Historians (mainstream at present) portray Europe and China as the two notable powers throughout history and leave India out of the discussion even during our Golden eras. India is mentioned as a mere footnote if at all in summaries of human history. Doesn''''t mean this is reality (which I am certain it isn''''t). Clearly not an accurate portrayal of history but since (at present) the West produces the most research they are seen as the premier authority on these matters. Many great Indian libraries and monuments were destroyed by invaders. India is really in "the dark ages" at present in terms of scholarly research and scope of study of history in India is very limited (WE NEED MORE NON BIASED INDIAN HISTORIANS TO TAKE UP THIS IMPORTANT WORK).

Many ancient sites across India are known but have not been excavated at all because of limited funds and perhaps overall lack of initiative. I think the deciphering of Indus scxt, if accomplished, will be revolutionary in our understanding of world history. Recent genetic studies are already suggesting Indian merchant presence as in Mesopotamia and eastward migration from India.
